Week 3 Homework Maintenance Plan

 This is copied from another blog right now.  I am working on getting the appropriate directions and videos linked to this.   This should give you an idea, until I can finish it up and customize it for Dewey:

  1. The blue text below goes to the exercise directions and videos.
  2. Read through the whole blog, if you have not already.  If you have, please be sure to read notes for training for Week 3 with the Exercise Directions and Videos linked below.
  3. Sit on The Dog [video] 30+ minutes This can be rotated on days that you are not doing Behavioral Downs or Long Place. Goal:   To get your dog relaxed and chill in many different environments and scenarios.  When the dog lies down within five minutes or less, and is chill for much of that time, that is when you can up the challenge and distractions for the dog.
  4. Behavioral Downs [video] varies between in time but the most has been 30 minutes This can be rotated on days you are not doing Long Place or Sit on The Dog.  Goal:  To have your dog be able to chill in various environments and scenarios.   Since this is more difficult than sit on the dog due to the additional requirements, you should move much more slowly up the distractions.  If you don't, the exercise could take an unreasonably long time.
  5. Long Place [video]  30 minutes or less This can be done on days you are not doing Behavioral Downs or Sit on The Dog.
  6. Sits First Command with Correction When Needed on Manual [video] or Ecollar [video] 5 + minutes NOTE:  YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO THIS WITH YOUR HEEL TRAINING FOR THE DAY
  7. Still Sit Stays and Circle Sit Stays on Manual Collar [video] or Ecollar [video] 10 + minutes  NOTE:  YOU CAN DO THESE DURING A TRAINING WALK WITH HEEL PRACTICE.
  8. Heel and Auto Sit on Leash and Manual Collar [video] 15 + minutes
  9. Recall Command Repetitions on Manual Training Collar and Leash [video] 5 + minutes
  10. Fetch to Lap [video] 5 + minutes
  11. Send to Place [video] and Circle Place [video] on Manual [video] or Ecollar [video] 15+ minutes
  12. Down with Manual Collar Correction when needed (with food reward in leash holding hand as in exit lesson) [video] 5 + minutes
  13. Let's Go on Manual Collar [video] and Long Line OR Let's Go on Ecollar [video] 15+minutes

  STEP 1:   Your puppy should be on their 6' lead and a collar. STEP 2:    Be sure you are prepared with  kibble in your hand  BEFORE giving a command. STEP 3:   Say your puppy's name. STEP 4A:     Immediately upon your dog looking into your face (and not glancing immediately away), say your release word "yes" and deliver the food reward as you release them. STEP 4B:    If they do not look to you, first try calling their name again.   Give them 10 seconds in between so you aren't just rapidly firing off their name.   If they are just really enamored of something other than you, you could try to gently tug on their leash and see if they will turn.   You could also try to make a silly noise after you say their name.   Usually though, once they know what the deal is with the food reward, it does not take more than three times to get them to look at you.
